Let me start with something that might annoy you: there is no one perfect safety gear setup. Scenario 1: Long hours on your feet, indoors or on pavement
This group includes warehouse staff, security officers, and maintenance crews. They're on concrete for most of the shift. For them, the biggest safety purchase is footwear.
People think expensive boots are safer because they cost more. Actually, boots that are designed and tested to higher standards cost more because safety, materials, and durability are built in. The price follows the product, not the other way around.

Heat wave safety glasses sound like a marketing label, but they're not just fashion. They're impact-resistant eyewear with tinted or polarized lenses that cut glare in bright conditions. If your crew works outside, especially in summer, get glasses with an impact rating and an anti-fog coating. They cost a little more than cheap tinted safety glasses, and they last longer. Now the question that shows up in my inbox every few weeks: how to clean leather gloves? Because if you're buying good leather gloves, you need to take care of them.
The short answer: use a soft brush to remove loose dirt, hand wash with a mild soap in lukewarm water, and air dry them away from radiators and direct sunlight. Then condition with a leather balm. Don't put them in a washing machine and don't dry them on a heater. I did the heater thing once (ugh), and the gloves came out stiff and cracked.
Scenario 3: You're responsible for a building, not just for bodies
This one sneaks up on office admins. Fire extinguisher installation isn't a trip to the hardware store. It involves placement, clearance, signage, and inspection schedules. If you don't have a service contract, get one. - Are they outside, in bright conditions, or handling materials that tear up their hands? Then you need eye protection and glove care (Scenario 2).
- Do you manage a facility where fire extinguishers exist, but nobody can tell you the last inspection date? Fix that first (Scenario 3).
If all three apply, and for a lot of facilities they do, don't buy a bundle just because it's convenient. Separate the needs, evaluate each one on its own TCO, then consolidate vendors if it makes sense.
Bottom line
There's no magic answer. But there is a process: know the environment, calculate the true cost, verify the source, and maintain what you buy. That's how you end up with gear that actually works.
